Dr Florian Habermacher



Florian Habermacher is an Associate of INET Oxford and researcher at the Aurora Energy Research in Oxford, where he is Head of the energy modelling team. He has written a PhD in Economics and Finance, with specialization on economics and econometrics, at University of St. Gallen and at University of Oxford. His thesis focused on deepening our understanding of global and dynamic effects of climate policies, and exhaustible resource theory. He earned his PhD while working at the Swiss Institute for International Economics and Applied Economic Research with a focus on public finance and policy questions, including international tax competition and basic income studies. He was awarded a scholarship for the completion of his dissertation at the University of Oxford, where he stayed at the Oxford Centre for the Analysis of Resource Rich Economies (OxCarre).


Before he learned that one of his key passions is called economics, Florian studied Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Lausanne, including a year of studies at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi and a research stay at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he wrote published research on air quality modelling.

His current research interests include most notably environmental, resource and energy economics, public finance and policy as well as mathematical modelling, and he has a fondness for topics at the interface between economics and ethics.
