ABSTRACT:
I will be covering material from one section of my new book, “Collective Action and Exchange: A Game Theoretic Approach to Contemporary Political Economy” (Stanford University Press). Institu- tions are a critical part of economic life, from central banks to governance and social norms. After briefly covering the rationale and role of institutions, both formal and informal, I will discuss self-or- ganization of institutions, including third-party enforcement and the role of social networks.
