In November 2019, Eric Beinhocker, Executive Director of INET Oxford, gave a lecture at the Santa Fe Institute’s (SFI’s) annual trustees’ symposium. Tying together moral philosophy and economic theory, he explained why we need to reimagine and redesign the economy so that it fosters social cooperation within safe planetary boundaries.

Explaining how tools from complexity science can help us achieve this, he explains why the neoclassical view of humans needs a deep rethink and discusses the economy as a complex adaptive system.
