Biography

Raphaela Maier is a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford in the School of Geography and the Environment under the supervision of Dr Peter Barbrook-Johnson. She is a PhD student at the University of Graz in the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change and focuses on decarbonisation strategies in heavy industry and passenger transport. In her research she applies qualitative methods (stakeholder engagement) and economic modelling (cost-benefit analysis and computable general equilibrium).

Prior to her PhD, Raphaela completed a joint Master's degree at the University of Graz and the University of Leipzig in Sustainable Development, studying interdisciplinary perspectives on the transition towards net-zero. Her undergraduate studies at the University of Graz were in Environmental Systems Science with a specialisation in Economics, which she enriched with an exchange semester at Western Washington University, where she focused on energy economics.
