Abstract:

The year 2019 marked the tenth anniversary of the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages (PAH from now on), born in Barcelona in February 2009. On the occasion of this anniversary, a group of researchers in social sciences, aware of the experience of the Platform, meets with militant researchers to celebrate and analyse the first decade of a fundamental actor in the struggle for the right to housing in the Spanish state. This book aims first of all to celebrate the milestone achieved by the PAH: to celebrate its first 10 years of life and to have become a crucial actor in understanding the struggle for the right to housing and social mobilization in the context of the crisis in the Spanish State. Secondly, the book aims to contribute to the understanding of the processes of citizen organisation and the defence of individual and collective rights, as well as to analyse the tensions inherent in any social group and the challenges of collective organisation within the PAH. Thirdly, the book aims to participate in the debate on the legacies, strategies and impacts and perspectives of the social movements developed in Spain in times of crisis. Fourthly, but no less important, this book is a way of thanking the "PAH family", who have generously and patiently integrated us into their daily lives as observers. Hopefully, the critical and analytical look offered in this book will serve to restore a small part of everything that the PAH has offered us.
