Abstract:

The new database of the Household Panel prepared by the Tax Agency (AEAT) together with the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IEF) allows us to measure the distribution of wealth in Spain and, for the first time, also in the different autonomous communities. This database contains a representative sample at both national and regional level of 2.9 million individuals (1 million households) with detailed information on income and wealth from informative tax returns and other official sources, between 2016 and 2022, for the autonomous regions of the common tax regime: that is, all except the Basque Country and Navarre, which, as they have their own foral regime, do not form part of this base. The resulting series are compiled and freely accessible on the spainwealthatlas.world website, of which this report is a first analysis.
