Description

Stefan Thurner is full professor and chair of the section for Science of Complex Systems at the Medical University Vienna. He is external professor at the Santa Fe Institute for the study of complex systems and co-founder and president of the Complexity Science Hub Vienna. Stefan holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the Vienna University of Technology and a PhD in Economics from the University of Vienna.

With 190 publications in diverse areas of complex systems study, ranging from modelling brain activity and gene interaction networks to systemic risk in the financial system and statistical detection of irregularities in democratic elections, Stefan is at the forefront of those uncovering the hidden laws of the complex natural and social systems surrounding us. We are honoured to announce that Stefan will be holding a public lecture at Oxford University's Mathematical Institute.
