BankIndaba, the in-house magazine of the South African Reserve Bank (‘SARB’), have this month profiled INET Oxford Senior Research Fellows Janine Aron and John Muellbauer for their centenary issue.
The profiles outline Janine and John's work with the SARB over the last 20 years. During this time they: undertook the first serious econometric analysis of the corporate saving rate in South Africa; co-authored articles, books and book chapters with SARB economists; produced the first quarterly balance sheets for the household sector from 1970 to 2005; and organised capacity-building trips to Oxford for SARB staff.
Janine and John have contributed well over 20 policy-relevant research papers on South Africa, covering monetary policy, forecasting output and inflation, modelling consumption and debt, and measuring the exchange rate pass-through. They were recently elected as SARB Research Fellows (2018-2019, extended to 2021).
