Biography

Akhil Chauhan is a DPhil candidate at the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford. His research focuses on developing agent-based models of electricity markets and energy systems to better inform decision-making under deep uncertainty, particularly regarding technology costs, policy, and market dynamics.

Previously, he worked as a Senior Scientist on the Net Zero India project, a research collaboration between IIT Delhi, Princeton University’s Zero Lab and Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, and Prayas Energy Group. His work focused on developing MacroEnergy, a macro-energy systems supply-side optimisation model, and leading the development of the transport module of PIER-NZI, a bottom-up demand side energy system model for analyzing India’s energy transition.

His research at IIT Delhi examined the role of subsidies in accelerating green hydrogen adoption in India, evaluating their implications for technological learning, cost reductions, and deployment. Before transitioning to energy policy research, Akhil worked as a machine learning engineer at Samsung Research and IBM Consulting, gaining experience in software development, cloud technologies, and AI-driven solutions.
