Biography
Alessandro Nardo is a PhD candidate in Socio-Economic Studies at the Herman Deleeck Centre for Social Policy, University of Antwerp. His research is supported by an individual fellowship for fundamental research from the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO). His doctoral project investigates gaps in last-resort social assistance across European countries, combining multiple indicators such as coverage, adequacy, and take-up to assess the effectiveness of minimum income schemes. He is particularly interested in vulnerable groups among the poor who remain excluded from these safety nets. Alessandro is also a research fellow within the Antwerp Interdisciplinary Platform for Research into Inequality (AIPRIL). His broader research interests include poverty, minimum income protection, spatial inequalities, and the comparative effectiveness of social policies in Europe. He holds an Honours Master’s degree in Political Science from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa) and an MA in Politics, Institutions and Markets from the University of Florence.
