Biography

Astha Wagle is a Doctoral Researcher in the Economics, Enterprise and Finance Research Community at Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) and a DPhil candidate in the Geography and Environment Department at the University of Oxford. Her work focuses on green growth in lower- and middle-income countries, with a primary case study on Nepal.

Her research examines the economic, policy, and labour market dimensions of green growth in countries with relatively low industrial bases. Astha’s broader research interests lie at the intersection of environmental and development economics, with a particular focus on how policy, market, and institutional frameworks can support climate-compatible development. Methodologically, she works with both econometric and qualitative approaches, and is especially interested in policies that promote low-carbon growth while enhancing climate resilience, job creation, and equitable economic transformation.

Astha holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Economics and Climate Change from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a B.A. in Economics from Ashoka University. Prior to her DPhil, she was a Research Assistant for the Business Models team at the UK Greenhouse Gas Removal Hub (CO₂RE), based at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment.
