Biography

Martina is a DPhil (PhD) candidate in Social Policy at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention and Nuffield College, University of Oxford. Her research lies at the intersection of sociology, economics, and social policy, with a focus on intergenerational mobility, inequality, social stratification, and related policy in the Global North and South.

Adopting a sociological perspective, her doctoral dissertation examines the relationship between intergenerational social class mobility and various forms of inequality across 15 Western European countries. In 2024, this work was recognised with the Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy Award.

Beyond her doctoral research, Martina collaborates on projects analysing global 20th-century trends in intergenerational mobility and their underlying drivers. She is also engaged in policy-oriented research, contributing to collaborative projects on tax reforms, educational inequalities in sub-Saharan Africa, and the Oxford-led "Talking to Machines" initiative.

Martina holds a joint MSc in Economics and Social Science from Bocconi University, the Université catholique de Louvain, and the Université de Namur, as well as a BSc in International Economics and Management from Bocconi University. Her professional experience includes internships at the European Commission and SMEunited.
