Biography
Nadia Schroeder is Head of Strategy and New Initiatives at the Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, an affiliate of INET Oxford, and a doctoral researcher in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge.
Her research examines the political, economic, and institutional conditions required for long-term societal transformation, with a particular focus on the political capacity needed to sustain environmental transitions. Her doctoral work investigates how political communities solve coordination problems under uncertainty and over long time horizons. She develops new theoretical and methodological approaches to political cooperation and long-term collective action drawing on grounded theory, political psychology, and decision-making under uncertainty. Her work sits at the intersection of political theory, environmental economics, and political economy.
Alongside her doctorate, Nadia works on applied research in sustainability transitions at the Smith School, with recent work focused on contentious and hard-to-abate sectors, particularly extractive industries, chemicals, and industrial decarbonisation.
Nadia holds an integrated Master's in Chemical Engineering and a BA in Politics and International Relations and Economics from the University of Auckland, and an MPhil in Politics and International Studies from the University of Cambridge. Prior to her doctorate, she worked at McKinsey & Company, focused on the financial sector, infrastructure, and energy.
