Biography

Xiyu is currently an Assistant Professor of Econometrics at Department of Economics, the University of Gothenburg. Before joining Gothenburg, Xiyu spent four years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. He completed his DPhil (and MPhil) in Economics at the University of Oxford in 2019 and MSc in Statistics at the London School of Economics in 2012. A Chinese by birth, his undergraduate study in computational mathematics was taken at the Northwest University in China. Xiyu’s interest lies in econometrics, working at the intersection of economics, statistics, and machine learning. His research is directed toward the development of practical solutions to applied problems, and fundamental understanding and statistical assessment of these solutions. His current research focuses on solving econometric and statistical problems in outlier robustness, non-linear cointegration, and L0-norm constraint model selection (best subset selection).
