Biography
Andrea Gurgone is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School and a Research Associate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford. His research applies agent-based computational economics to explore topics related to financial stability, including interbank networks, macroprudential policy, systemic risk, housing and mortgage markets, and the macroeconomic impact of the energy transition. Currently, Andrea is focused on developing and calibrating large-scale multi-agent macroeconomic models that integrate economics with advanced methods from computer science and artificial intelligence. Andrea holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Finance from the Catholic University of Milan, a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Milano-Bicocca, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Università degli Studi di Bergamo. He has held research positions at the Central Bank of Ireland, the University of Bamberg, and Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei. Additionally, he spent over two years as a Senior Data Scientist and Senior Economist at a consultancy firm, contributing to various public policy projects, with a particular focus on labour market resilience.
